WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) – A bankruptcy judge is hearing details of a settlement with the estate of former Hooters founder Bob Brooks that could boost the chances that workers at the defunct airline he once owned will collect back pay.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports that a hearing on the proposed settlement is set for Tuesday in Winston-Salem.
A trustee overseeing the assets of the failed Pace Airlines Inc. negotiated a $400,000 settlement with former owner Brooks’ estate. That money is seen as boosting the chances the former Winston-Salem charter airline’s more than 420 employees will collect some of the $1.5 million in back wages they’re owed.
Many employees were not paid for as much as their last six weeks of work.
The company collapsed in September 2009.
